Toronto…day 2

Eriks Mom wanted to rest yesterday afternoon after her pre op and encouraged me to set out and visit a quilt shop.

I chose The Workroom , so set up a Uber ride. On the way to the shop a traffic drum came flying off a truck in front of us…I sure was impressed with the drivers ability as it flew right into our path with so much traffic and speed involved thankfully he was able to miss it but it was by inches. He earned his tip that’s for sure!

Not the best thing to fly out of a truck in traffic! Yikes!

Thankfully I arrived safe and sound and relaxed looking at all of their fabric and supplies. This shop caters primarily to Modern Quilters, they also carry every colour of Kona cotton which made it very easy to find the sashing fabric that I have been looking for for my Long Time Gone Quilt. I chose Silver which is such a pretty and soft gray.

Along with the Kona solid this bundle decided to join me in my quilting journey.

Stay Gold by Melody Miller

My local guild will be beginning a quilt sew along this month and I am leaning towards using fabrics from this bundle. I wish that I could have decided on my background while in the shop however I chose to wait and give it a little time.

There is another shop not far from here that offers free delivery within this area…yikes should I go there?

Long time Gone update

My free time for piecing has been minimal for the last several weeks, I have made some progress on this fun quilt though.

Auditioning fabrics for the trip around the world block. I have decided to stick with the red and outer ring will be blue.
These sweet little churn-dash blocks were fun to make, I decided to use the same background for each block and not repeat any fabric. I absolutely love playing with so many bits and pieces.
I am on the lookout now for sashing fabric. I have scraps of the solid gray and hope to find some soon.

Catherine’s Drunkards Path Quilt

Another amazing piecing job by Catherine. She told me that she used what she had on hand for this quilt top, I recognized most of the fabrics from previous quilts that I have done for her.

The pantograph Flying Paisley was perfect for this quilt.

Jeanettes North Star Quilt

These quilts are so much fun and always make me smile while I quilt them! This one was purchased as a kit though I believe that it was also offered as a block of the month.

We chose the pantograph Star Swirl.

There are such fun ways to grow backing and use up the scraps from the top as well.

The Flower Block of The Month

This last year or so has afforded many quilters time to work on their ufo’s. This one went back a bit and my customer and I reminisced about how the quality of quilting fabric has improved since the 90’s along with the variety available. I recognized many of the fabrics from my early quilting days.

With all of the different flowers and also some embellishments already added I decided to add the pantograph butterfly charm to this flower garden.

I was tasked with finding the backing, this one was chosen as a closest match at the quilt shop Fuelled By Fabric in Pass Lake. It really shows off the design!

The Hockey Quilts

These two quilts will be so much fun for the young hockey players that this customer made them for.

She varied the colours on the two and I chose the windswept pantograph for both the density of the quilting and for the wonderful movement it brings to a quilt.

Margaret’s Tulips

What a fun and happy quilt! It was quilted with the pantograph ground cover. Margaret used fabrics from her stash to piece this quilt and like so many of us, she told me it didn’t make much of a dent in her stash.

I love the variety of fabrics in this quilt.
The backing was primarily the green but was grown using strips of some Kaffe

Lucille’s Quilt

Lucille began this quilt for her Granddaughter it was originally meant to be smaller however as the last couple of years curtailed travel she decided to make the quilt larger.

It was a pleasure to quilt this pretty quilt with the sea turtle backing. I used the pantograph called Waterworld. It gives such great movement to a quilt.

Cathy’s Wolf Quilt

How amazing are these digital panels! Cathy has made this quilt for her granddaughter and now that there is a little more freedom for travelling she is finally able to deliver her quilt.

She chose a perfect dark charcoal Fireside for the backing. I pieced two lengths for the quilt….this fabric is so nice to work with and my only recommendation is to take the time to check the nap direction.

You can really see the outline of the pantograph Star Struck on the back!

I am sure that this quilt will be loved and snuggled under for many years to come!
