Design Wall Update!

I have had so much fun piecing blocks for my Long Time Gone quilt! It is very scrappy and very bright. I think starting it before finishing my Moda blockheads might have been a mistake because these brighter blocks really drew me in.

My design wall is located in the hall outside of my studio which makes photographing a challenge.

A lot of the fabrics are from my stash but many friends have enhanced my scrap collection along the way which will make this quilt so much more special to me. This will be my 2021 quilt and I plan to have the top completed before I allow myself to begin the first Color Collective project…starting November 1st (more on that soon).

Longtime Gone quilt is a pattern by Jen Kingwell that really caught my attention early in the year. I love the variety in piecing and fabrics that are in the quilt.

Thanksgiving Weekend

Happy Thanksgiving!

With the weather being wet and gloomy and being a long weekend weekend I decided to treat myself to some just for me sewing days.

I began the Moda blockhead 3 quilt at the beginning of 2020 and kept up for the most part and enjoyed the challenge of piecing a few new to me blocks. I used fabrics from a few designers and a colour palette that was different than I had been using lately.

These blocks were on my wall far too long to the point of being tired of looking at them, especially with another project getting well under way and needing the design wall space!

Not all blocks made it into the top and now I am at the point of deciding on the border, that may take a little time as I am going to ponder that for a while. Any suggestions?

Jo Avery

This month the Thunder Bay Quilters guild is hosting a workshop by Jo Avery

In preparation for the workshop I decided to visit her website and found a tutorial on free hand foundation piecing which looks like fun.

Leaf Pile Quilt

The pantograph leaf pile has been in my collection from my early days of Long-arm quilting and has been a favourite of both mine and many customers. It has such a nice flow to quilt and adds such a nice autumn look.

Millie made this bed quilt as requested by a family member and after discussing the quilting we both agreed that leaf pile was a perfect fit.

As a child we lived in Winnipeg and had oak trees in our yard, I always loved the leaves (especially this time of year) I suspect that is why I love this pantograph so much.

Herringbone Quilt

The Herringbone was the second quilt that I have quilted for Eryn the first one was her One Block Wonder.

Eryn’s One Block Wonder

Her Herringbone quilt is so light bright and fresh looking, it was quilted using the pantograph parchment.

Her choice of backing is such a fun surprise!

Welcome October

September seemed to just fly by, however it was a full and productive month. After returning from Toronto, Erik and I attended his nephews wedding, and also our youngest grand child’s birthday party the first weekend back.

As fun as the weekend was, we were both ready for some stay at home and get things done time.

Sadly we did not have a good crop of apples this year, thankfully my friend Kim did and she shared a few totes with me. I have been busy making and canning juice and will freeze many apples along with making some crisps! The house certainly has that autumn smell these days!

My design wall has been changing and hopefully my Moda Blockheads top will be off the wall this coming week to make room for my Longtime Gone quilt which is well under way….I always end up with more than one project in the works and several on my mind.

It is a little like a puzzle right now as I decide my layout.
