I am so in love with this version of the Madeline Schnibble..I varied the border which I think made it a bit more fun and whimsical.
and here’s my completed Sweet Spot using the Home Town fabric from Sweetwater.

I fell in love with the Strawberry Fields Collection by Fig Tree as soon as I saw it. Then when I saw that the Fat Quarter Shop was using the collection for the 2011 Designers BOM I decided to give in and join in. Well the other day I noticed that I’d received 7 of the blocks and maybe it was time to get started.
There was a reason though that I hadn’t started. You see I don’t like the method for making the square in the square block that was used in the pattern. I have never had any luck getting my blocks perfect.
I know it doesn’t look too bad in the picture but it’s off when put under the ruler.
I recently tried and demonstrated a new to me ruler for a quilt group called the Square2 which I fell in love with
Deb Tucker’s Square2 I love this ruler! Deb has wonderful tutorials check out her tutorial for the Square Squared ruler
and here is the result, my first block is finished and it turned out perfectly.
Looking at the next block I see the Deb Tucker Trimmer will come in really handy!
I’ve been playing with this collection of charms (Home Town by Sweetwater for Moda)for awhile first working on this Schnibble (Sweet Spot) using a common background fabric. (Just in case you don’t know about Carrie of Miss Rosie’s Quilt Co who designs these wonderful little patterns click on the Schnibble link and go have a visit!)
I really couldn’t believe myself but when I made the flying geese for this project..and I mean all the flying geese for the border, and I was laying them out on my design wall I realized that I’d made them wrong..where was my mind I ask??
here’s my excuse
sometimes Liam likes to hang out with Grandma in her studio..he is such a handsome distraction!
Thankfully I had more charms so I made the geese over again and correctly the second time and the wrong geese?
have become the star points in a slightly changed version of the Madeline Schnibble pattern. I like this little quilt so much that I’m thankful for that “little” mistake!
As I mentioned in my last post I had something important to share. My second grandson Liam who was born November 25th!
Christmas was wonderful, I had my hearts desire which was that all 4 of my daughters were here with me, with their men and my grandsons!
My oldest was home with her husband and their adorable son Jerry who is now 19 months and so full of energy and inquisitiveness. Living in Texas they don’t experience the snow like we do.
It’s been over a month I know..but it really was a busy month. So much has happened. I’ll start with the Quilting side of my life…
I was busy quilting for others. One thing I’ve worked on this last year is my free motion fill on nature scenes.
Unfortunately my pictures didn’t fully capture my stitching, something for me to work on in the new year!
I was really pleased with how this next one turned out.
On the quilt shop front I’ve been making a few more baby quilts, that are for sale. I am at the shop every Wednesday and it seems that every week a new group of fabric catches my eye and imagination. Thankfully Luci is happy to let me play and see what I come up with.
This one has already been sold. Though I am working on another one. I just love the colours and the fabric is wonderful to work with.
The most important to me quilt that I made this fall:
The meeting last night as always was a lot of fun, Norma (our guilds president) always does her best to keep the business side of the meeting short and sweet and informative. She and the rest of our executive really do an awesome job!!
The show and tell at our guild is always great and last night, when it was finished said oh is that the end? She wasn’t finished looking a quilts
but then are quilters ever finished?
After show and tell last nights program was a demo night.
Louise showed the teacup pincushions she’s been making
Peggy showed us how to make book covers, I really like the bookmark!
Cindy had a fun snowman wall-hanging to show us and had some other fun ideas to share as well.
and Joyce shared some of her ideas and techniques for making..hmm I didn’t get the name of this one but it sure was fun and interesting and I plan to play with this in the near future!
Joyce is planning to hang some of the leaves that she’s made in a tree outside for the winter, I think it’s a great idea to bring such a fun colourful as well as whimsical art to the long winter days!
Not too many years ago people around here thought it was really something to see a few deer, which lead to people feeding them even in the city.
Now they’ve become a big problem in the city, I don’t know how many times I’ve had them run out in front of my van when I’m driving. I’ve even had them burst out of the woods right in front of me when I’m out walking..yes still in the city.
Yesterday this buck was hanging out in our parking lot and was not interested in leaving, when we tried to send he only started towards us. Thankfully the city passed a bylaw last night, which makes feeding them against the law. We’ve had problems with neighbours feeding the deer and refusing to stop.
For some reason I’ve been in the baby quilt making mode these last few months.
My original plan was for this first quilt to be the back of the second but then when it was pieced it just seemed so soft and sweet that it needed to be it’s own quilt.
I’ve been very inspired by some of the different quilts I’ve noticed on peoples blogs lately and thought this fabric would adapt well to what is being called Modern Quilts.
I’ve been slowly adding pieces to my collection. Today I found what I originally started looking for on the bottom right you can see my Cinderella Bowls in the Buttercup print.
I was gifted this cabinet by my friend Marlene recently and what a perfect fit it makes in my home!
I just love how my daughter’s little pig family looks with my pink Pyrexl
Emily spotted this piece the on the bottom it says Pyrex England.
What a happy day I found 3 butternut print Cinderella bowls. The large bowl is in mint condition and is just what I was looking for.
I’ve recently added some carafes to my collection as well as several more bowls and other pieces.
