Still Here

Somehow another several months have flown by. I have neglected my blog again.
The summer was busy, starting with company from Finland. We met them in Wisconsin Dells, after a couple of fun days R&Ring

After company left July passed in a blur with working and quilting. In August we found ourselves back in the dells to see Dr. Hook at the Crystal Grand Theatre. And then spent some time travelling back roads homewards…

There is always so much to see and do on our trips…sadly never enough time. We did fit in a fun day of fishing in August though
We returned to our normal routines of business until the middle of September.

Revisiting Summer Wind a Low Volume Quilt

Several years ago on a little March Break trip across the border, my youngest daughter and I saw a fabric line in a shop that we had to have along with a pattern that the fabric had been made into. The fabric line was called Seaside Rose of Three Sisters for Moda fame and Katie and I collected a lot of it. I have made several quilts with it over the years but my favorite still is the one I made with Carrie Nelsons Summer Wind Pattern (I have made a few more with the pattern since in a few different colorways).

I have noticed lately that many people are making what are now referred to as Low Volume Quilts and realized that this one falls into that category though it was made so long ago. It is so soft and gentle looking and maybe that’s what drew me to the quilt in the first place as it was made during a very difficult and hard time in my life’s journey.

On another note it sure is nice to see green grass even sprinkled with dandelions even if only in pictures…we still have about 3 feet of snow…

A Little Show and Tell while we wait for Spring!

The days are feeling a little longer lately even though the winter weather still seems to have a firm grip.

I’ve been busy in my studio both in piecing

And of course Machine Quilting

This was a fun freehand job, that I added some “modern style” quilting to a traditional quilt. (Unfortunately the back was too busy to really show the quilting) the first picture is the top before quilting the second is a close up to show how I quilted it.

Next up the Anniversary Quilt, it was quilted with a Panto called Here and There, I chose it as it has both a heart looking shape as well as a feathery look without being overly feminine as it is a gift for a couple on their fiftieth Anniversary.

January and Possibilities

Ok time really is getting away from me, ESP when it comes to blogging!
Just a quick recap from the last few months, I have been very busy with customer quilts as well as working as a respite worker for Wesway. Christmas as always seems to show up before we are ready though as always it was a wonderful time with family, oh and for those who don’t know…Erik and I became engaged!!!!
My oldest was home from with her family (I guess I should acknowledge that Texas is her home) Jerry really enjoyed his visit! At 3 1/2 he sees snow as fun and didn’t care that it was cold out either. His Dad really had fun fort building as well, his Mom while being a great sport has really grown used to the Texas weather.

Jerry and Liam had fun getting reacquainted, and Jerry informed his Mama that Liam isn’t Baby Liam anymore cause he is big now!

On the quilting front I have really enjoyed a new book by Judi Madsen of Green Fairy Quilts called Quilting Wide Open Spaces, such an inspiring to me book. She and her husband also run an online fabric store that I have ordered from numerous times with great satisfaction. So I am always happy to recommend them to others, their prices are awesome to as is there integrity!

Speaking of quilt shops I heard that there is a new shop in town! Super exciting news!!

I attended our Possibilities club tonight, I have missed too many of these meetings due to work this year. (I haven’t even made it out to a guild meeting this year though it looks good for next month!) anyways tonight’s meeting was fun, casual and full of fun and exciting ideas!

And yes I am and have been busy quilting customer quilts for the most part. I will share a glimpse of one as the customer hasn’t seen it yet…lots of fun with freehand and inspired by Judi’s book.

Fanciful Flowers

Such a pretty quilt that I filled with freehand feathers and swirls, some echoing and a little bit of ruler work. My only regret is that I didn’t take a picture of the whole quilt finished.

Brrrrr

It’s not officially winter, I don’t mind the snow, it’s actually pretty but who said we needed to be plunged into the deep freeze? Hopefully we will be spared the unbearable cold windchill weather over the holidays!

Life as usual is hectic, full and busy. One of my quilt job finishes includes this police patch quilt using 82 different patches and the state colours of West Virginia. It now resides in Florida.

Quilting and Inspiration

Life has been busy, with so many wonderful and exciting adventures and opportunities. I am truly blessed! Yes there have been challenges, but aren’t there always.

I have been busy quilting these last months, mostly for customers, busy trying to make the most of any good weather we’ve had this fall, busy working and continuously learning.

I am so fortunate to quilt for many wonderful people

Alva’s pieces always inspire me and I consider it an honour to be her quilter!

Lorraine has brought me several of her beautiful quilts that she makes as gifts for people in her life. This is one of her more recent ones

Jeanette brought me several this year, this one a little wallhanging for her Sauna
