In this case Cathy brought me her Nebula Quilt designed by Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts and fabric by Tula Pink. Cathy made some changes to make it hers.
I really do love quilting for others! It’s so much fun to help other quilters bring their projects to completion.
Cathy chose the pantograph Nemesh Feather Grande which is such a pretty design and perfectly suited to this gorgeous quilt!
The backing really showcases the beautiful feathers, curls and swirls of this gorgeous pantograph!
Cathy also supplied the prepared binding, so not only was her quilt trimmed but the binding was attached and pressed and ready to be hand stitched when she picked it up.

Well it’s a little past mid March and I woke up to snow…again. Thankfully my morning commute is only a short stairway away!
A peek at what’s under my needle…though it’s almost finished and will be done before lunch break. I am really enjoying the changing colours on this quilt with every advance.
Todays Instagram Quiltfest post prompt was favourite quilt which I can truthfully say that I don’t have one.
I love quilts and their stories some are so exciting such as for babies and weddings…some have brought me comfort the ones made for friends that are at the end of life or struggling.
This is a customer quilt from early in my Longarm career, I love the beautiful appliqué and the quilting added. I wish that I had better pictures of it!
Another custom quilting job that included a lot of freehand stitching, it really is a spectacular quilt!
This one was a Victory Quilt made to commemorate the end of the World War in 1945, it was brought to me top and backing and binding to complete.
Another long time ago quilt, made by Margaret Bliss for her Grandson, that shows my custom Quilting.
My friend Alva and I decided to play with the disappearing hour glass pattern shown on Missouri Star Quilts…mine was made with Kaffe Fassett fabrics and hers with Batiks.

This was Alva’s last quilt, I quilted so many quilts for her and this final one was the only one that I put the last stitch in for her in the binding.
Many of my personal quilts have been made just for fun, playing with different ideas, patterns, fabrics and colours. Many quilts are my favourite while I am making them!

While many quilters are working along with Karen at Just Get it Done Quilting’s cleaning and sorting challenges I have been working on another half square triangle quilt for Marilyn.
If you have been following along with my blog you will know that this isn’t her first quilt like this!
It takes many years to accumulate this type of stash! When you look closely at her quilts it’s easy to see some fabrics that may have lost favour over the years over new projects and different fabric lines. Some might say get rid of what you won’t use or that you no longer love but something to consider…some day you may have a little more time on your hands for such a project one that will include memories from many years of quilting!
Some quilters work on a project like Marilyn’s over many years and eventually have enough to make the quilt… what projects are you working on?
November has sure been a busy month in the studio and the next weeks now that it’s December will be as well. I really consider myself fortunate to be able to spend my workdays helping others complete their quilts!!
There hasn’t been a great deal of personal piecing time and I haven’t felt overly motivated either which in a way is a good thing … I have been percolating different border ideas for my Longtime Gone Quilt. This has been a long-standing project that I had been hoping to quilt over the holidays.
Well, after finishing quilting this customer quilt last night…
I spent some time in my studio puttering and playing with left over blocks in the LTG (longtimegone) bin and looking on Pinterest for inspiration and it’s finally come to me. I have also decided on the quilting design and backing.
Just to remind…here is one of the more recent sections completed for LTG. It’s been such a fun project and I am excited to see it completed.
Also some of the blocks on the design wall. I actually have the top pieced and ready for the final border.

Good Monday morning…we woke up to some white stuff this morning! Not enough to shovel and it will most likely melt this afternoon but enough to remind me to get out the winter gear!
It’s so much easier to greet the warmer days of spring and summer along with our nice long days of extra daylight…. But then again it’s so much easier to get lost in my quilting as winter approaches.
I recently completed some double sided quilts, these take a little more time and consideration in loading in order to keep the back as straight as possible.
This quilt is a great example of beginning with a panel and adding on with different blocks to create a quilt top. The backing was inspired I believe from searching on Pinterest.
What’s going on in your quilting world these days? I have a few spots open for Christmas projects so touch base with me if you would like to be entered onto my quilting schedule.
It’s been a busy Month, with quilting and preparing for winter. The furnace is often running overnight now and it won’t be long before it’s needed during the day.
This was the view from my sewing room window last week…the leaves are falling and the view changes daily.
I have been busy in the studio…here’s a glimpse with more to come.
When most of my time is spent working on customer quilts I like to treat myself with some time sewing for myself before bed.
I am contemplating the final border for my Longtime gone quilt and while I do that I have been playing with the crumbs that have been made in the process of piecing the top.
I have recently quilted several quilts that the maker has chosen Cuddle fabric for the backing. This super soft snuggly fabric quilts up beautifully and I happily piece theses and all backings free of charge to for my customers. Why? I first began this service shortly after I began quilting for others as many found it challenging to piece large backings…I continue to do so.
This fun quilt was put together by a Mother and Son project!
The thickness of the cuddle fabric really showcases the quilting design.
How gorgeous is this flannel weave quilt? I love how rich and vibrant the colours are and with the flannel backing and Warm and natural batting it will be a very warm lap quilt this coming winter. Brrr I am not quite ready to say that word!
I just love her perfect piecing and her seams were pressed open.
I chose the pantograph Bayside which added some movement as well as just the right density of stitching to ensure that this quilt will last many years!
I used a slate gray thread in the bobbin, just a shade lighter than black that really shows the beautiful stitches.
This fun quilt was a first quilt for its maker. The name of the recipient …her nephew was pieced and added to the back….and I might add beautifully done.

Well another snowy day, we woke to another 5”s of very wet snow. While the trees did look pretty, we had a near miss of a snow laden tree leaning on our power line…thankfully with a little help from Erik with less snow it bounced up a bit.
And a little later in the morning…
I am normally a pretty patient person, but the snow is stretching me though there is not a thing I can do about it….we are also waiting for our newest grandchild to arrive any day…I am not feeling patient about that either.
There is also more snow predicted for next week!
I have finished quilting the half square triangle quilt I wrote about in my last blog and have the next ready to quilt. It always amazes me how even in 18 years of quilting for others there are rarely duplicates!
This quilt is spectacularly brilliant! Just what’s needed to work on a gray snowy day!
I am itching to start project three of the Color Collective! It’s called Stellar, designed by Tara Faughnan.
Do you ever find it hard to break up a bundle and start cutting it up, I do but I know that it will will be fun and once I start it will be hard to stop… that might be part of my hesitation.
