How beautiful is this summer quilt!
This was purchased as a kit and perfectly pieced. One of the frustrations that it’s maker, my friend shared was that there wasn’t enough fabric to mitre the final border. She did a great job making it work.
She chose the pantograph Shasta Daisy which was a perfect fit and really danced on the beautiful backing fabric!
Am so thankful to be able to share my love of quilting with others and to have the gift of helping them to bring their projects to completion!
Well with a look of the calendar we are a little past mid July…it’s been a full month.
One of the best things about my quilting business is that I can work throughout the day and evenings instead of having to fit life around my job. I am currently working on a king size quilt and have some others to share.
One of the best things in the summer is extra time with Liam…something he and I both agree on. He has spent as much time as he can in the pool and the weather for the most part has worked in his favour. Our pool is solar heated.
He can spend hours swimming and playing in there at times just floating around looking so relaxed!
He loves it when I get in too and we have been working on perfecting our frisbee game.
My Dad’s 85th birthday was this month. Life is good and he has certainly role modelled to his family what a healthy lifestyle can bring to life! Sadly we missed his party that I had planned due to Covid, so we had a second party after taking extra time to be sure we would all be safe.
My Auntie Marie had sent one of her blueberry pies along with my brother when he stopped to visit enroute from Calgary. Dad saved the pie to share with us. It turns out that blueberry pie isn’t only Dads favourite!
Liam has been asking me to teach him to make banana bread this summer…the days have been way too hot to use the oven. That is until yesterday. I haven’t made bread in a really long time and have been meaning to replace my old loaf pans so we made muffins instead.
We watched a YouTube video first which explained the process and then got busy.
He had a hard time waiting for them to cool… and a hard time not snacking on them during the day. At ten and a half his appetite seems to be constant…and he loves that he is almost as tall as I am.
It rained much of the day yesterday, but we did manage to get out for a walk together. I usually walk first thing in the morning in the summer while the guys sleep. Today is looking promising for both my morning walk and Liam’s pool time.

How fun is this view from my picture window! Liam absolutely loves building his forts with the huge Lego blocks…I love how much fun he has!
The view outside is that beautiful lush green that evades us most of the year causing most of us to relish the days of beautiful summer days!
Liam is more than happy to enjoy his summer!
Weather permitting, when he is here he is in and out of the pool all day..stopping for refuelling breaks and when Grandma says it’s time for a break!
Yesterdays break meant the completion of a big Lego project!
It was a hot day yesterday and Liam and I had made important plans for after school when I picked him up.
First thing was to head to Dairy Queen as he and Pappa had run out of ice cream cake in he freezer. Liam suggested that also have a small cone while there, his disappeared almost instantly and then he suggested that he finish mine…which he did.
As soon as we got to the house he raced in to get his swim suit on…he likes to be first one into the pool each year.
Followed with bison burgers for supper
And of course cake…
And more swimming!
He has 3 more days of school and then summer break.
It is officially summer! The days will gradually get shorter again daylight wise. Sunrise was 5:55am and Sunset today 10:03…summer days here are long. Of course we pay for that in December.
We were under a heat warning yesterday and it was extremely hot. At one point it was 33C and with the humidity much higher. The black flies and mosquitoes have been abundant so other that my gardening tasks I hid out in my studio quilting my day away.
The robins nest is looking very full
Last week while cutting the grass Erik discovered a bunny nest. It was such a treat to see especially because Liam was with us and was able to see it.
Unfortunately two mornings later the nest was empty, we found one lone bunny not far from the nest.
Knowing that it’s best to leave them we let it be, however it didn’t move and after a huge thunderstorm it was soaked and still so we brought it in.
One of Eriks daughters is a true animal lover and encouraged us to rescue this bunny and she found someone to take over for us. We got word yesterday that the bunny is thriving.
The night before discovering the nest, there was a bunny looking in my Long-arm room window, when I brought Liam into the room to see, it hopped onto the window sill and stood up looking right at him. Later I noticed it was hopping erratically all over the yard. I wonder now if it was the mom and was aware of the predictor that took her baby’s.
The pool is almost set up again and yesterday when I went to check the water temperature there was a bunny resting beside the pool. They often hang out around the house.
It is so nice to wake up to blue sky and sunshine and green grass…well maybe not all green right now.
Liam loves soccer and has been teaching me some new techniques. I have many memories of my Grandmothers but none involved playing with me, I want that for my Grandchildren.
He won’t have memories of me dirt biking, those will be with Pappa!
Pool season is almost here and Erik was called into helping replace his Daughter and Son-in-laws liner as he has done it before on our pool.
I was treated to a day of playing with grandchildren and being fed! Later there was a birthday celebration for Erik. We arrived home just before 9 and both had a little nap in order to have the energy to wrap up the day.
Today is a professional development day here which means no school for Liam. He and I will work on planting the garden and some flowers along with some soccer and our war on the ants.
Let me begin this story by clarifying as Liam put it that we want to get rid of Ants not Aunts!
Liam reminded me about our ant study last year and asked to rewatch some of the YouTube’s that we watched before. He especially liked the one that involved a flame thrower! That won’t be happening here.
Every year it seems that the ants are winning as they seem to take over the yard and every year we try something new. This year friends brought us a new to us product to try. It seems to have worked on the first hill. So time will tell.
There are several remedies that I haven’t tried yet. This one involves a gel bait that goes into the little houses and the ants flock to it and bring it into the nest to feed the queen and babies.
Anyone have other successful remedies?
