The sun was shining yesterday!! Depending on where you live that might not be something worth noting. Living in Northwestern Ontario as we edge closer to winter solstice the daylight especially the sunlight is shorter lived each day.
Finding the right light to capture the true colours in the quilts that I photograph becomes more challenging as the days become shorter. Thankfully I have a large window beside my Longarm…
So on to todays quilt. Michelle pieced this quilt for a friend who requested a quilt and her friend wanted red. Many of the fabrics are from the French General collections by Moda.
I chose the pantograph Rhapsody which adds such a lovely flow of flowers and leaves without being overstated. The density of quilting is a perfect balance for a bed quilt.
Michelle purchased the backing from Donna at Fuelled by Fabric in Pass Lake.
This queen size quilt recently left my studio. It is laying sideways on the Longarm and shows the bottom with additional piecing on the right. Kim is a very talented piecer and for the most part designs her own quilts.
Shasta Daisy is such a popular design, thankfully I enjoy stitching it as it’s often chosen by customers and lately it has shown up on a few quilts leaving the studio.
The stitches really show up beautifully on the black backing!
Many of my customers request that I decide on the quilting design for their quilts, however they also know that if they have something specific in mind that I don’t already have that I will find it and order it in for their quilt happily adding new pantographs to my collection.
How adorable is this bright and fun quilt!! When Cathy told me about the quilt that she was making for her granddaughter she requested a cat themed pantograph so we discussed the different options and decided on Copy Cat.
The backing is Fireside which I pieced for her. These backings add so much softness and warmth to a quilt and are easy and wonderful to work with!
Look at how beautifully the quilting shows up!!

I recently quilted this quilt for Joan, she has been piecing for a number of years and it has been so much fun to watch her grow and expand her quilting skills!
It seems that most quilters end up with left over fabric from each project they have done, this accumulation of “scraps” or if there is enough of it “stash” eventually reaches a point of it’s time to do something with this!
Joan has been having fun with her scraps and her fun turns into mine. Visiting in my studio we discussed her quilt and how it was a walk down memory lane for me as her quilter! (Hence the Name that I gave this quilt!)
Many years ago I decided to offer to piece yardage into backs free of charge for my customers.
Look at this beautiful batik backing, the stitching looks great on it as does the pantograph Shasta!
Another thing that I usually do for Joan is to prepare her binding, for this quilt she chose the backing fabric for the binding.
