Suddenly Sixty!

I have always loved my birthday as a child and young Mom it was almost always the first day of summer holidays! I loved having my daughters out of school and with me in the summer…though I did share them with my parents for part of several summers so they had time in Calgary being Grand Parented.

I wasn’t expecting anything big for my special day, I always just enjoy that I have as they say made another trip around the sun. This birthday was different and my girls family and friends managed to completely surprise me with a party.

My daughter Mary’s birthday is the 25th and she had told me that my Dad was having a brunch for her on her day…which is something that usually happens so that’s what I was expecting.

If you have Instagram you might be able to see this Reel that my friend Ana Paula made for me sh really captured it well!

With three of my daughters and three grandchildren! My eldest daughter and grandson live in Texas and were there in spirit 💕

Jaki (my sister by choice) helped make it all happen and flew in for the surprise!

Liam knew all along…as in from March when the planning began!

My Dad hosted the party, Romee used the opportunity for a sweet snuggle with her Great Grandpa!

Every detail of the party was amazing, my youngest daughter, Katie made most of the food, my Dad grilled and smoked the meat. So much food art!!!!

Emily and her sweetie pies took care of the decorations and Mary organized and together my daughters made it all happen….

I am not capturing it all, it was such a special day with so many special and near and dear to my heart people. Everything was perfect.

Using a favourite quilt that I made years ago, the girls hired Heather from @sayitwithcookiesrm and she replicated my quilt with these amazing cookies!! She is a true artist! They were incredible and so delicious as well!!

I am missing pictures here of everyone, but so touched and appreciative of the whole day it’s one I will never forget 💕

June! and a Liam update

Anyone who knows me knows that I love June! I always have for as long as I can remember!

The month started off welcoming and celebrating the grand opening of my friend Ana Paula’s new shop!

Two of my daughters share my birth month, the weather truly warms up and my world outside turns green!

Oh and Summer Solstice! Something else Liam and I share is the love of looking forward to and enjoying the longest daylight day of the year.

In the last years Liam delights in June looking forward to the first swim in the pool, barbecues (especially his favourite Bison Burgers) playing soccer outside and of course looking forward to summer holidays!!

This June for Liam marked a big milestone in his life! He graduated from grade 6 (grandma brag here…with an excellent report card!) on that note He had an amazing teacher this year and school really clicked for Liam starting in the fall, when he informed me that his teacher had a standing desk station for those who found sitting for long stretches hard. She also announced the snack table and that if you are hungry please have a snack! This woman clearly has a good understanding of 11 year old boys!! Liam will miss her and the elementary school but now moves onto Jr High in the fall.

This Junes ice cream cake was to celebrate Liam’s graduation!

He and his Mom spent well over an hour playing in the pool, the laughter was true music to my ears!!

Speaking of Liam and his Mom…she has shared her love of beading with him! The creativity in my family always amazes me and fills me with joy!!!

My Sister by choice and longtime very best friend came for a visit! Liam has met her before and when I mentioned something about her being a pilot and now is a captain he told me that he thought she was one of those people who bring you food! So we did some education 🥰 that those flight attendants are there much more for your safety than anything else!!

There was quilting happening as usual…though somehow I managed to pick up a flu bug and ended up spending quite a bit of the month dealing with that…thankfully that’s behind me!

On the life side of life

This last week marked a new beginning! Not only was it Eriks birthday but also the beginning of retirement.

I had so much on my mind I meant to put Pappa not Erik on the cake.

Liam has been looking forward to Eriks day for months as it also marks his half birthday and he is really looking forward to being 10.

He and Pappa both have a deep love of Dairy Queen Cake so Liam was pretty pumped to go shopping for that. I had a few other errands to do and we both agreed that it would be best to pick up the cake last. I told Liam that it was his job not to let me forget the cake!

We grilled bison burgers on the green egg for supper. No pictures but they sure were yummy!

Liam spent some time with his Great Grandpa learning to sketch caricature faces. My Dad is an incredible wood carver and artist and it’s so nice to see him sharing his skills.

On a silly note Liam discovered the heat lamp in the sauna change room.

Grandsons and Texas

My grandsons became buddies as soon as they saw each other. During our visit to Texas Liam started sitting unassisted and pulling himself from here to there. He was wide eyed watching his big cousin Jerry and I’m sure thinking of things he’ll do to be like him.

I love these little guys more than I could ever say. How Cute are they together in the stroller! I wonder if they’ll have as much fun shopping in a few years..somehow I think they’ll choose their Dads and Uncles over us girls. But for now we sure had fun.

and being the Grandma, means that when someone gets a little restless why not buy a cookie!

We celebrated Jerry’s second Birthday while we were in Texas.

Jeremy (Dad) made and decorated the cake.

My Birthday Weekend

I love my Birthday, I consider it a celebration of life……years ago I decided that one day just wasn’t enough. So Although my Birthday is at the end of June I always say it’s not over until Erik and I have gone fishing and camping in September and he has to grill a smokie for me on the campfire.

Well my birthday is officially over…..I guess

We enjoyed a spectacular weekend of perfect weather. Two nights with campfires both nights were warm with a clear sky.

Three days of fishing

We caught our limit of Lake Trout……..Yumm!

and Bass

and then while Bass fishing I caught this (thankfully after 15 minutes of fighting with it Erik brought it in!) For those who don’t know it was a Pike (39” long and 14 lbs)

I love September fishing especially when we get great weather, I was also able to take a couple of swims……the weather has changed and we may only get a few warm days here and there before the cold air starts to settle in for the next several months.

Thank you Erik for another awesome Birthday Weekend!!!

Quietly Busy

Its been extremely quiet here this last week, all of my girls have been away. Of course Sarah is always away now that she lives in Texas. Emily, Dave and Katie drove down for Jerry’s first birthday. I’m waiting for more birthday pictures…

This was one of Jerry’s first pictures as a cowboy

Yesterday I finally re-quilted my original Summer Wind quilt. I really wish I’d taken some pictures of it to show why I decided to re-quilt it. I had used a panto that wasn’t as dense as I like and also used a wool batting, when it was washed it just did not like it. It is my summer quilt for my bed so I use it and I still love it so it was worth re doing. Thankfully I have a friend who offered to un-quilt it for me. I had been a bit concerned about the stitch holes from before but they have all but disappeared.

I used a Robyn Pandolph backing that I absolutely love and suits this quilt perfectly.

a little sneak peak of some quilting for the Circle of Friends Quilt Shoppe (opening soon)

more to come…
