A First Quilt! An Extra Special Gift 💝

A first quilt made as a very special gift!

Its maker chose the quilting design Forest Floor as the recipient loves the outdoors.

This pantograph has such a wonderful density and is such a perfect Autumn design.

It’s always fun to flip over the backing and see how it looks as well! In this case the indentation and not the stitching is what shows up more.

The quilt was trimmed and ready for binding at pick up!

The quilt was made by the Bride and presented to Her Groom on their Wedding Day this past weekend.

Such a wonderful gift Congratulations to the Bride and Groom!!

Debs Quilts

I have long admired my friend Debs quilting and artistry. The quilts that she entered into this weekends quilt show, (put on by the Thunder Bay Quilt Guild) along with her demo on Improv piecing at the show were so inspiring!

Debs Improv Demo

I love her use of colour and her quilting. She quilts on her domestic machine.

Her backings are so much fun to see!!

This quilt is classic Deb! When I first saw it at a guild meeting I just knew it was hers and that she was at the meeting!

Of course I wanted to see the backing and an amazing quilter and artist and teacher as well founding member Jackie Black was there with white gloves to show me.

Last summer Deb enjoyed a 5 day retreat taught by Cindy Grisdela and the resulting quilt amazed me! I noticed Deb walking by

We were so excited to see each other and when she asked if I wanted to see the back of the quilt…well we had a pretty good giggle!

After restoring the quilt to its hanging position…we still dared to look at the back!

A Quilty Surprise (part two)

On a beautiful sunny day in a small town in Iowa a big surprise was waiting for me!

I really didn’t know what to expect when I first stepped through the doors of the Iowa State Museum, after all I was in a very small town… the gal working there told me that it was a brand new exhibit and that I was welcome to take pictures as long as I didn’t use a flash…not a problem.

The artists!

I kinda felt like I was in Wendys Wonderland! The quilts and quilting were absolutely amazing, spectacular and incredibly inspiring. I have been quilting making for 40 years and have dabbled in all kinds of techniques and types of quilts, then adding my Longarm to the mix 20 years ago I was able to add a whole new layer to my passion.

I am very drawn to Modern quilts and this show was full.

All of these quilts involve small piecing, which I have always loved.

Those are only some of the quilts that I loved!!

Modern Quilts and Fireside Backing

I love blue, I love blue for its calmness.

Often quilts are dropped off and not fully opened until their turn comes. This quilt had been discussed with its maker through email as was the quilting decision.

So when I first opened up the quilt and laid it over the Longarm the room already painted a soft blue…really became blue!

The pantograph parchment was chosen and I chose a baby blue thread which moves perfectly across the quilt.

I just love the pretty stitches!

The fireside backing is so soft and blue and really shows off the quilting design. I pieced the backing for this quilt, it worked out beautifully!

LABYRINTH

Some quilting jobs like to spend more time on the frame than others..this was one of them.

The pattern is called Labyrinth and the kit was purchased from Keepsake Quilting. My customer made some changes to the fabrics that came with the kit and also added more borders as she doesn’t care for square quilts.

I was able to play on this quilt and used some new to me ideas that I have learnt thanks to Angela Walters, Craftsy classes as well as her books.

Anyhow here is my show and tell:

I really need some time to finish my design wall so that I can hang and photograph my quilting. One day soon. For now these will have to do!

Have a great and wonderful day!!!

Suzanne’s Stars and Modern Quilting

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’ve been gaining some new quilting ideas from some new sources. Thank you Suzanne for letting me do what I wanted on this quilt it really was fun to do!

(It’s so hard to believe that this picture was taken yesterday morning, no jacket on and this morning the same table had almost 10” of snow on it!)
